At an early age Tom found a love for Gymnastics, and by age 12 was representing South Africa on the international junior scene. He was awarded his National Colours many times after that, competing successfully both locally and abroad.
In pursuit of new goals, Tom then dabbled with the Comrades Ultra-Marathon & the Dusi Canoe Marathon, but eventually turned to the sport of CrossFit, and immediately found success there too. However, it was Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) that really captured his attention and passion. In 2017, at the OCR World Championships in Canada, Tom placed 2nd and 4th respectively in the 15k & 3k Sprint events (Age 30-39). In 2018 he placed 3rd at the SA OCR Championships in both the Pro Men’s Sprint event as well as the Commando Elite event, and 2nd in the Pro Team Sprint.
In 2018 Tom also stepped out of his comfort zone and took to the mud of “Toughest Mudder Texas” – an 8-hour, through-the-night, multi-lap, obstacle course race that lives up to its name as one of the “Toughest” OCR races out there. To read more about his experience, click here.
