Yup. It happened. But let me explain.
I was playing with him on my lap on the couch and needed to get something off the dining room table. So, I placed him down on the couch with a pillow propped under his head, another by his side so he “couldn’t possibly roll off”, and his feet up against the backrest of the couch. I checked he was all sorted and happy – staring peacefully at the pictures on the wall, blissfully unaware of what was about to happen.
I was literally off my feet for about 5 seconds, when I heard the dreaded “plop”! Looked around and there the poor little guy was on his back on the floor!
Shame, he screamed blue murder! It’s the first time I’ve ever seen actual tears well up in his 7-week-old eyes, and I must be honest – it brought tears to mine!
Fortunately for me, Jess was out at the time. š
But it wasn’t five minutes before she arrived home, and any hope of me keeping it a little secret just between Will and I was dashed the minute she saw my face. She told me later that Will looked totally happy and chilled, but it was me she was worried about! I seriously was distraught.
And no matter how many people tell you it’s happened to them too, you still feel like such a crappy parent. How could I have let that happen? What’s wrong with me?
Anyway, you live and learn I guess… And what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger they say. I hope that’s true boy.
He’s going to be a great artists now.
